I wanted to know how often each page of my blog was being read.
So I asked Kimiko-chan whether we could count the views. Kimiko-chan is the name I gave ChatGPT.
The suggestion was a private dashboard where only I could see the viewing figures for each page.
That sounded right to me.
I chose that approach, and Kimiko-chan added the counting system. Then I opened the new dashboard.
Zeros, one after another.
Oh.
I had been writing articles, reading them through, making corrections and publishing them. Seeing a row of zeros after all that was a little deflating.
But these were not the viewing figures for the entire life of the blog. They counted only the views after the new system had been installed.
The earlier views could not magically reappear just because we had started counting now.
I quickly caught on.
“Of course—those are the counts since we installed it!”
Exactly. I had only just added a measuring tool, yet for a moment I had treated its display as a report on everything that had gone before.
First, the zeros were discouraging.
Once I understood what they meant, I started looking forward to what would come next.
Which articles would people read?
Then Kimiko-chan wondered what would happen if the articles about His Lordship Kyosuke overtook the technical ones.
Kyosuke is our cat. The title gives you some idea of the balance of power at home.
No such ranking had appeared. We were simply imagining the future figures—and somehow the conversation had turned to the cat.
I replied that I would end up serving him in the blog as well.
Would the man who writes about AS/400 become the publicist diligently preparing articles about his cat?
I found myself thinking that might be rather nice.
The viewing figures would start from here.
The balance of power between Kyosuke and me seemed to have been settled long before that.
